Welcome to the future.

In the year 2042, the world’s population is almost 13 billion. Massive birthrate increases across the globe has resulted in the worst overcrowding in human history. Governments and unions worldwide are trying to find courses of action, while both the United States and China are on the verge of economic collapse.

While China has started placing huge restrictions aimed at controlling population and driving down life expectancy, the American government has refused nearly all proposed “plans” on the grounds that they’re not ethical.

One proposed plan was the idea of “gender balancing”; Equalizing the male-female gender ratio at an even 50-50 split. The science and ethics behind the idea were struck down by the American government and other institutions. However, the idea was gaining ground amongst the upper-class citizens of society.

When the government shut down an underground “genderbending” operation being used by countless upper-class families in Manhattan, the practice was officially made illegal. That only drove its supporters to do a better job of hiding it.

None of that was Brent’s concern though. He was merely 2 years old when that happened. Now in the year 2050, he hit the age of ten. He loved to draw, and create art. He found he was really good at it too! The adults around him would be amazed by the pieces of art he created, and how cool the ideas were. He only wished his mom and dad were part of the adults that were so proud of his creations.

They didn't hate him. They loved him so very much before the plane crash. But now they were gone, and it was just him and his new family. He had stayed in the foster system for seven months, and saw how many kids never had anyone to take them home. There were so many, it was surprising when one of the families chose him, and so quickly too!

He came home with them, and was in awe at what we saw. A huge mansion, with gardens, playgrounds, and a big fountain! So many cars, so many workers… He was going to a rich family’s house! It was like a dream come true. Was this because he could draw?

He learned his new parents’ names quickly, wanting to please him and make them love him. He wanted to stay, so he memorized their names. His new dad was Robert Spaulding. Robert. Rob. That was easy. Too bad his new mom’s name wasn't. Adelyn was her name. Her name was Adelyn Spaulding. He’d have to focus a lot on remembering that one.

His life was so fun now! He had a big boy’s room all to himself, full of awesome toys used by other past children. He saw other rooms for girls full of toys, but no-one was ever in those. Was he the only one here, or did he have sisters and brothers to play with? That thought left him lonely, but he couldn't help but feel excited about his new life.

One day, Adelyn came up to his room. “How are you enjoying your toys?” she asked, with a large smile. He smiled back and said sweetly, “They’re great, mama.”

The large smile got warmer, and she kneeled down to the floor. “Do you know where you are now?”

“Home,” he answered, keeping up his sweet tone. The lady chuckled, and shook her head. “No, I mean, what state?” she clarified.

“Oh… um… no.”

“We live in the state of Montana.”

“Cool!” he exclaimed, smiling big.

She sat there for a while, talking about the state and the family’s history. Then, she mentioned something really interesting. His new sisters!

“They’re attending a special university to the north. It’s in Canada. It’s for young children with really special abilities, like you,” she explained.

He knew it! He was adopted because of his drawing! This didn’t lessen his good feelings any, it actually made him feel better. He had hoped someone would notice his drawing and that would make him different, and it totally had! At the same time, the news of having sisters excited him. He was an only child with his real parents, so he’d never had siblings to play with before.

“Would you like to visit your sisters?” Adelyn asked him. Brent bounced up and shouted, “Yes!”.

Adelyn laughed and stood back up. “Good…”

His new dad Rob was still home, sitting in a chair in the downstairs hall. He was smoking a cigar, leaned back all casually, as Brent and Adelyn walked down the stairs holding hands.

“We ready?” Rob asked, breaking his casual posture and quickly rising from the chair. His voice almost sounded panicked, but Brent didn’t pay it much mind. Maybe he was the type of dad that was always in a hurry to go places. Brent’s real dad was like that too.

“Yes, Brent would like to see his sisters,” Adelyn formally replied.

Rob grabbed his coat and gave Adelyn hers. Adelyn kneeled down again to put on a smaller jacket for Brent. He was a little startled. The red jacket was very tight for him, and had strange red cuffs on the end. Was this how rich boys wore things?

Adelyn seemed to notice his awkwardness, and frowned.

“I’m sorry Brent, the university has a really strict dress code. You can only dress a certain way, or we can’t take you there,” she explained, fastening the jacket and stuffing a light blue tie on the collar.

“I understand, mama,” he muttered, clearly disappointed in having to wear this stupid jacket.

“Should I get the rest?” Rob asked, and Adelyn nodded to him. Again Rob quickly rushed around, this time to a different room. Brent could hear boxes being opened and paper being rustled, but he couldn’t see. Adelyn was still fixing his tie.

That’s when Rob walked back in, holding things that made Brent’s eyes fly wide open. “Mama!” he yelled reluctantly, trying to back away. Adelyn grabbed his collar and held him in place with unusual strength. “Do you want to see your sister or not?” she asked sternly, with an angry look in her eyes.

This was weird. Was this weird rich people stuff, or was this just extra weird even for rich people? Brent didn’t know, but his entire body wanted to will itself away. Everything in him just wanted to.. pull away. He didn’t let it, though. This place was amazing. He had parents again. He was about to meet his sisters. He couldn’t ruin this, just because of some stupid clothes he had to wear!

He stopped struggled and bowed his head in acceptance with a small sigh. Adelyn looked back up at Rob and nodded her head. Rob quickly laid the items down and sorted them out on the floor.

“Let’s get these off,” Rob said, taking off Brent’s shoes, socks, and pants, while Adelyn held him in place. Brent stared directly into Rob’s face, and noticed that his new dad was trying not to look at his face. This wasn’t right. Something was really wrong. It didn’t make sense!

“Leg up,” Adelyn commanded, as Brent complied. Combined, Rob and Adelyn were able to get him into a short, red plaid skirt, dark red stockings, and frilly white slippers.

Brent shifted awkwardly in his new clothes, as the air went up under the skirt and gave him goose-bumps.

Adelyn walked out the front door to get in the car, suddenly ignoring Brent. That’s when Rob tossed aside his other clothes and rested his hands on his shoulders.

“Brent, I’m sorry. I know this is weird for you. It’s weird for me too. It’s just one time though. We go up and see your sisters there, and then that’s it,” Robert explained, with an awkward smile.

Brent’s confusion wore off a bit, and he felt like Rob sympathized with him. “I really don’t wanna go out like this,” he replied, with a shaky voice.

“I know, bud, I know. Don’t worry, they see boys walking around like this all the time up at that school. You’re not the only one that’s gotta dress like this to go there. Maybe you’ll meet another boy there and you two can become friends,” Robert suggested, with some awfully flawed logic. Brent didn’t see it though, and even liked the idea of meeting a friend there.

“Okay,” Brent said with determination, “I’ll go.”

“There’s a good kid.”

All three of them arrived at the university together. Robert elected to stay in the car, while Adelyn quickly got Brent to walk inside. As soon as he walked inside, he noticed something confusing. The other girls there were all sorts of ages, and were wearing different uniforms. Mama said he had to dress this way to go there, so why didn’t the girls here have to do it? Was it only for boys? He was back to being confused.

At the same time, he couldn’t help but be amazed at the school’s front lobby. There were crystal ceilings in great architectural formations, and the marble walls and floors sparkled with their reflective light. The chairs, the front desk, the stairs up to the second level… It all seemed so alien, but so wonderful.

He walked hand in hand with Adelyn, up the staircase, and to the second-floor balcony. There were halls in all directions, filled with rooms. How big was this place, he wondered?

As girls of all ages passed him by, he noticed the looks some of them had. Some looked at him with contempt, some looked with sympathy, and some of them looked with amusement. The sympathetic looks are what caught his eye. Why did they look that way, like they were sad for him?

That’s when his attention was drawn back to Adelyn. She directed him to a hall in the east wing of the university, and then a door on the left. He walked in, and there was a man in an empty classroom. The only things there were dusty windows, a large wooden table with cheap wooden chairs, and a concrete floor. This room didn’t match anything he saw outside.

“I’m going to leave you here while I go find your sisters. Father will be here soon to check up on you,” she told him, with no expression and a stern tone. Brent looked at her with the same confused look on his face he had when she put on that jacket, and she simply turned around and walked out of the room.

“Why don’t you go ahead and sit down?” the professor asked politely, causing Brent to look towards him. He was a bald man with a scruffy beard and shiny glasses. Brent took a seat at the table, shifting his weight out of discomfort. The skirt didn’t help him feel any more comfortable because of its strange feel, and the stockings were so tight around his legs he almost felt like passing out.

“What’s your name?” the professor asked him, again in a very polite tone.

“Brent… Brent Spaulding,” he nervously answered, looking away.

“Oh, Brent? I like that name. My name’s Jacob,” the man continued, with an interested look on his face. He leaned forward and placed his arms on the table, and sat a cup of water on the table. That’s when Brent realized he hadn’t had anything to drink since arriving at the mansion. He was really thirsty.

“Would you like a drink, Brent?” he asked, offering the cup. Brent looked in it, and saw a strange floating substance in the drink. He only saw it for a moment though, before it seemed to disappear in the water.

“No, I’m ok.” Brent replied, leaning back in the chair.

“Oh, I see,” Jacob said, with a look of disappointment on his face. Then, the expression turned to something else. Something close to excitement…

That’s when the man grabbed his suitcase and pulled out a blank piece of paper. He walked over to the bare board behind him on the wall, took a tack out of the board, and placed the paper there. Then he picked up a pencil and held it up, staring at Brent. “Would you like to draw?”

Brent got out of the chair and walked over, muttering, “Sure.”

He reached the board and began to draw on the paper. It would pass the time while he waited for Robert to come check on him. He had an idea, too. A knight on a horse. That’s what he was going to draw.

As he began to draw the outline of the horse, he felt a sudden pain in his left arm. He jumped and looked, as the professor was holding another tack in his hand. “Sorry, my hand slipped,” Jacob said with a very apologetic look, as Brent rubbed his arm.

He went back to drawing, as the professor walked back over to the table and sat down. Brent’s idea had changed though. Suddenly he decided the horse needed a horn. And a more masculine shape. Then he decided the knight needed to have long brown hair, and a large shield and sword… Then he felt a weakness in his knees.

The pencil fell out of his hands, and he fell hard to the concrete floor. He heard the professor sigh behind him, but it didn’t seem like an angry sigh. It was a sad one. Brent quickly tried to get back to his feet, but found he couldn’t move. That’s when a burning sensation hit him all over. He tried to yell, but nothing came out.

The feeling got worse, as he stared up at the ceiling. It felt like a pulsing cold was going up and down his body, while the burning persisted at the same time. The professor walked into his peripheral view, looked down and examining him.

Brent’s body was changing size. His arms were becoming skinny, his legs got longer and his thighs got a little bigger, and his shoulders and chest shrunk down and in.

All Brent could do was lay there, and feel the burns and chills. What was this? What was going on? How did he look? … Why was he wondering that? Suddenly he found he was asking himself if he looked “pretty”. Then, it felt like popcorn was popping in parts of his head. No, why was he wondering if he was pretty? Wait, because it’s important to be pretty… But he’s not supposed to look… but he is… but he’s not… but he is?

As Brent’s mind began to hurt, he started to regain enough strength to tilt his head up. He looked down, and noticed that two parts on the top of his chest were starting to poke out. They kept poking out, and poking out… until a pair of breasts sat on his chest, irritated by the fabric of the shirt.

Brent’s internal voice started becoming more feminine, as did his face. His bright green eyes took on a more feminine look, his cheeks and jaw shrunk inward, and the skin all around his face became softer and more sensitive. That’s when he noticed that his short blonde hair had grown out, and pink bows had gotten in his hair. The hair put in these bows kept growing, forming long pony-tails.

The bows weren’t the only sudden shift in his clothing. His felt something, almost like a third shirt, form around his chest. It hugged his new breasts and nothing else, and seemed to make them less irritated. At the same time, a huge sensation of cold had rushed in underneath his skirt and hit him between the legs. That area became less irritated too… it actually became really soft. His underwear was so soft, and so was his… his… hers…

Bree started to regain all of her strength, and sat up. Her head was still hurting though, this time with a feint buzzing noise going in her ears. Her eyes were constantly going between clear and blurry, like a bad camera. She tried to stand, but found herself stumbling back to the ground.

“Stay there until you can stand,” Jacob commanded her, and she obliged, trying to catch her breath. What had happened? Why was she so dizzy? Where was her mama?

That’s when it hit her. She remembered ‘Brent’. She remembered being a boy. She remembered the drawing. She remembering what happened to her. She tried to stand back up again, but she couldn’t. Her whole world was spinning. Who did this? Why was this happening…?

That’s when she heard a voice come from somewhere. It was Robert’s.

“Hey, I’m-- What’s going on here?” he exclaimed, and a rush of relief came over Bree. Her new dad was going to save her! Then, she heard what came next.

“Don’t you people normally do this in a cleaner room? She could bust her head on this floor!” he shouted.

“What does it matter to you, Mr. Spaulding? They’re not your children, they’re ours,” Jacob replied, with an offended tone.

“Look, Professor Young, I’ve been doing this for a while, and it hasn’t gotten any easier. One of my comforts was that you had a good environment for them during their change,” Robert began, but Jacob interrupted him.

“This is only a temporary room. The full change will occur in a room in the north wing,” Jacob asserted.

Robert continued to complain, but the two took it outside of the hallway. Bree realized then, her new father was part of it. She crawled towards the door, trying to escape. She didn’t want to be here. She didn’t want to be a part of this. She wanted to go home.

Finally, her balance was regained, and she was able to stand. The minute her small white slippers hit the floor though, she froze. Her body wasn’t letting her leave. Without control, she walked outside the hall. A large emotional feeling rushed through her chest, and forced her mouth to move and her mind to churn…

“I’m ready for my first lesson, Professor Young,” she exclaimed with a high-pitched, excited tone.

“See, Mr. Spaulding? The temp room didn’t harm her,” Jacob said proudly. Robert shook his head, but didn’t say anything.

“I’ll let you get to it then. I have to drive my wife home,” Robert said, and turned. Bree wanted to speak to him, but her body wasn’t letting her.
Professor Young smiled at her, and told her that the lesson would take place in another hall. Her body had her happily follow him, and her mind was being flooded with thoughts of excitement for the next lesson. Part of her mind, though, was silently struggling to take control back.

As soon as they reached the area near the stairs, Bree heard a familiar voice. It was Adelyn, on her cell phone in the lobby, near the front doors. Robert was standing, waiting, holding one of the doors open for her.

“Oh, yes, I see. So what news do you have for me? Oh! That’s wonderful, I’m so happy we were chosen. We’ll make sure he fits right in. He’ll be part of the family. Oh. We’re in Winnipeg right now, but we’ll back home by tonight. Sure, we’ll pick him up!”

Bree stared blankly, as the professor turned and noticed she had stopped following him. That’s when that silent struggle in Bree’s mind took a turn.

The calm demeanor turned to panic, the cute smiling face turned to scared confusion.

The professor ran over and grabbed her right arm to pull her back as she tried to run down the stairs. As she was pulled back, she reached out her other arm towards Adelyn and screamed. “MAMA!”

Adelyn froze, and stared. She didn’t turn, she didn’t move. The last thing Brent saw was the woman using every inch of her coldness to block him out.

The professor spun her around, and grabbed her around the waist. “Are you coming to your lesson, or not?”

Bree’s eyes went wide and she exclaimed, “Of course I am, professor!”

She skipped alongside the man, down the northern hall. Soon she would meet her sisters, their classmates, and have a wonderful life.

Robert and Adelyn began the drive back, but were stopped as they left the main gate of the school. Winnipeg police were there, and a large crowd. “What’s all this?” Robert asked, rolling down the window. “Protesters are blocking the street. We’ll divert you around” one of the cops said.

“What are they protesting?” Adelyn quickly and loudly asked, leaning over the console. She was afraid that the school had been discovered as a ‘gender balancing’ school.

“Oh. This place has never been popular around this part of the town. People think the whole thing is wrong,” the cop explained.

“Wrong? Why?” Robert asked, joining in his wife’s concern.

“Well, ya just look at the name. ‘Turn Into a Girl University’. That’s got a lot of people upset right there. Enforcing stereotypes and all that. Now look, we’re gonna divert you around, don’t worry. Just get the car going forward.”
This is a short story for a contest for the group :iconturn-into-a-girl:

I'm not sure how this one turned out myself, but I hope you like it! :D (Big Grin)
